Electricity production in South Sulawesi is currently approximately 1.850 MWh per annum with a peak load of 366 MW. Demand for electricity has increased at an average rate of 14% per annum since 1996 despite has reduced economic growth in Indonesia. Demand is expected to increase at 7-12% per annum during the next 8 years

The Kampung Baru Gas Field

The Kampung Baru Gas Field which has been developed with a total investment of US$ 40 million provides the natural gas for Power Plant operation. Three welts supply the gas which /16 then processed and delivered through a 29 km pipeline to the Power Plant. The Gas Field is operated under a Production Sharing Contract with Pertamina. The developer Energy Equik Epic (Sengkang) 81.| Ltd adheres to established environmental and safety standards in its operation.

Remaining gas reserves total 600 Bscf which is sufficient to supply the Sengkang Power Plant with gas forzsyears and to fuel additional combined cycle plant of 300 MW

There is also potential for furthergas exploration if markets can be identified for the gas.

Thirty percent (30%) of the Government share of gas revenues under the Production Sharing Contract will be allocated to the regional/district government in South Sulawesi under the new regional outonomy laws.
